A decade on from graduation, alumni Cameron Scott shares his experiences working within some of the UK’s biggest design agencies and his creative process and practice. 

What’s going on:
Cam is a design consultant specialising in digital & brand experiences. With over a decade of experience across various industries, Cam has a passion for developing rich, immersive experiences across the web, apps and e-commerce platforms.

Cam has led a number of digital projects including the launch of an A/R experience for Nike’s all-new React Infinity Run, the launch of Google’s Local Opportunity Finder, supporting small businesses during the pandemic, and most recently as a Lead Product Designer for award-winning cosmetics brand, Glossier.

Prior to working as a freelancer, Cam worked for various agencies such as Amaze, W12 Studios and Publicis Sapient where he worked on products and digital transformations for brands such as Lufthansa, Heathrow, Lexus, The Saucy Fish Co. and Jaguar Land Rover.

Industry Talk: GETTING WORK READY with NIKKY LYLE 

Nikky Lyle is a creative recruiter with a conscience, with over 10 years’ experience in the industry. She is also the founder of The Good Gang, Vice President of Hope for Post Quarantine and President Judge for D&AD 2020.

During lock down Nikky started running a series of talks called Industry Leaders, with industry legends from Spotify, Vayner Media, Nike, DesignStudio, Pentagram, Wolff Olins, Rosie Lee, Jelly London, Handsome Frank and Bulletproof. Nikky has also recently released carefully constructed CV, portfolio and freelance guides, created with a mini team of freelancers, which have been created by creatives for creatives. They’ve received rave reviews being described as “truly illuminating” “absolute gems” “beautifully designed” and an “absolute treat to read through”.

What’s going on:
Nikky will discuss her career to date, her role as an independent recruiter for the creative industries and expectations of students from creative agencies.

What will I learn:
Nikky will be guiding students on how to prepare themselves, their portfolios, and getting ‘work-ready’. Topics will also include essential resources to help students, concluding with a Q&A.

Alumni Talk: AIMING HIGH 

McCann digital designer & alumni Anna Jachimczak talks about 10 years in the business

A decade on from graduation alumni Anna Jachimczak shares her journey as a mature graduate with high career aspirations. She talks about, having to find work quick, working with a global branding agency (McCann Manchester), and key pieces of work that got her where she is today.

What’s going on:
About Anna: Since graduating the course nearly a decade ago, Anna worked in print production, as a freelance designer and a part of an in-house design team for a global ecommerce retailer. Currently at McCann Manchester, she focuses on designing human-centered experiences, including web and product design, AR and digital advertising and campaigns. Past and present clients include: Aldi, MyProtein, Lookfantastic, Smyths Toys, Illamasqua, Royal London, The Hut Group.

What will I learn:
• How clear goals, determination and hard work can take you where you want to go.  
• What portfolio consideration will help support your career choices.
• What it’s like working for a global branding agency. 
• The design ethos of an experienced digital designer.

Student Talk: HARNESSING CREATIVITY 

1st years Freya and Jacob show their work and talk about the first term on the Graphic Design & Advertising course at UCEN Manchester.

Freya, is a progressing Art & Design student from The Manchester College shortlisted for her work with The Manchester Art Gallery and Craig Oldham on the ‘Right Here, Right Now’ project. Jacob, is a mature student living in Manchester bringing a background of website, app and t-shirt design to his first year on the course.

What’s going on:
Join Freya and Jacob as they discuss key creative pieces from their first term, such as – Postcards from a Modernist World, Branding for a Doodle Festival and what it’s like to study a creative subject during COVID times. Both students reflect on their work, their understanding of commercial creativity and their first term on the course.

What will I learn:
This student talk is intended to give UCAS applicants a good understanding of what the first term is like on the Graphic Design & Advertising course at UCEN Manchester. Topics will include processes, projects and subjects taught, concluding in a Q&A.

‘The Art of Food Packaging’ Alumni Jamie Keeble: The Flava People

Jamie Keeble discusses his first two years in the design industry.

During his two years in the design industry Jamie has worked with clients across the food packaging sector. Currently he has been working with YO! Sushi at The Flava People who’s clients include, Meat Lust, Blend Bros and No Yolk.

What’s going on:
Jamie talks about how the Graphic Design & Advertising course prepared him to tackle the specialist area of packaging design. Jamie discusses returning to study as a mature student and the importance of walking into a job following graduation.

What will I learn:
